ABOUT US
We maintain and protect Mill Valley’s stairs, neighborhood lanes, and town pathways.
Friends of Mill Valley’s Steps Lanes & Paths is a volunteer organization consisting of members of the greater Mill Valley community who are committed to the use, protection and care of the unique hillside stairways, neighborhood lanes and natural pathways throughout our town.
The Friends participate in maintenance projects on the mornings of the second Saturday of every month. These projects are fun and allow participants the chance to meet other Friends and community members while doing weeding, pruning, stair repairs or whatever is needed to keep our unique pedestrian routes safe and tidy.
The Friends also sponsor an Adopt-an-SLP Program, where members of the community, organizations or groups can volunteer to “adopt” a single staircase, lane or pathway and in doing so commit to sweeping, raking and weeding as needed to ensure “their” route is always well cared for. There is no monetary commitment involved – just a couple of hours every month working with a smile knowing you are giving to better our town!
The Friends works in coordination with the City of Mill Valley to ensure that Mill Valley’s Steps, Lanes and Paths Rights of Way are not encroached upon. We also work with the City, Safe Routes to Schools and other groups to help determine priorities for new staircases, path improvements and various major maintenance requirements.
We are open to participants of all ages (!) and are 100% volunteer run.
